Roots Edition

Yes folks, Fred & Andi of the A&S Dancehall-Edition started it, and now the Roots-Edition is coming up strong with some current rootical riddims… plus new releases and pre-releases!

NO WAR RIDDIM
The french Zenah-Music label brings us the „No War“-riddim, which should already be known from Sugar Minott’s „Easy Mr. Bush“-tune. This one sounds like a boomshot from the 70’s, and you find x-amount of versions on the „Zenah Music Meets Black Roots Productions“-album. A must-have btw, as this double-album features some unreleased Black Roots-productions on disc 1.

LION PAW RIDDIM
VP’s „Riddim Driven“-series is still going strong – even more, since VP follows the current trend, which is… well, back to the roots! This one-drop is produced by Michael Johnson and comes straight from yard… best known from Morgan Heritage’s „Hail Rastafari“.

HARD TIMES RIDDIM
This one is riding high on the Reggae-charts at the moment with versions from Capleton, I-Wayne and Bascom X. Plus, it’s the last work of the late great Eroll Thompson. Out on VP’s „Riddim Driven“-series.

UNITY RIDDIM SESSIONS Vol. 1
This CD features three riddims created by multi-instrumentalist Jah Servant and features artists like Audrey Gordon, Sherwin Gardner and Wayne Stoddart. The magic here really is in the production-work of Jah Servant – and we will proof that on the next roots-edition of Ackee & Saltfish, when we review Jah Servant’s stunning instrumental-album „Good Soil“.

That’s it for this time… nah, not really: Don’t miss Marcia Griffith’s new version of Marley’s „Crazy Baldhead“ from her forthcoming album „Shining Time“ (to be reviewed in the next roots-edition of Ackee & Saltfish).
